Operations / Recruitment


Lions Bay Fire Rescue is a small department comprised of 25 firefighters who protect the village of Lions Bay and the Sea to Sky corridor from West Vancouver to Furry Creek. We are heavily focused on training and as such practice live fire, auto extrication, first responder, rope rescue, and wild-land firefighting. We pride ourselves as a stepping-stone for those who are trying to get on larger career departments and currently have a record of 25 hires over the past 7 years.

Requirements

  1. Must reside in the Village of Lions Bay (Only 35 minutes from downtown Vancouver)
  2. Must have Fire 1 and 2 Certificates from an accredited college,
  3. Must provide a Criminal Records Check
  4. Must possess a valid BC Drivers license Class 3 with air endorsement
  5. Must provide a current Drivers abstract
  6. Must have First Responder level 3, or OFA-3
  7. Additional Fire service related courses are an asset.

Recruitment Process

  1. Interested parties are encouraged to call the training officer 604-690-4906 and make arrangements to come out to practice on a Wednesday night.
  2. At practice you will be given an application package to be completed and brought back on your next visit.
  3. Prospects are required to attend three practices, after which the members will decide whether the candidate is a good fit, and the officers will determine if their application is in order.
  4. If you are successful you will be required to find residence in Lions Bay.
  5. Recruits will not receive a pager until the following criteria are met:
    1. The recruit lives in Lions Bay
    2. The recruit provides a criminal records check
    3. The recruit completes an in house advanced auto extrication course (the course is two days and costs $250)
    4. The recruit completes 9 hours of community service.
