2007 Firefighter’s Day Fundraising Campaign

Lions Bay Fire Rescue (LBFR) is a volunteer fire department that protects an area, which spans 15 kilometers of the Sea to Sky highway between West Vancouver and Furry Creek. We respond to emergencies that include fire, auto-extrication, rope-rescue, and medical-aid.  We are highly trained and as such require countless hours of training to be prepared for these many types of emergencies.

As you can imagine, training in these areas is a constant challenge and one that we certainly enjoy, but an even greater challenge can be to provide the proper funding for the specialized equipment and training that we require.

Funding for Lions Bay Fire Rescue is through the tax base of the Village of Lions Bay, Provincial Emergency Preparedness funding, and the annual Fire Fighter’s Day fundraiser.

The Firefighter’s Day fundraiser is an all day event on Saturday September 8, 2007 from 2pm to 10pm at the Lions Bay Beach. Events throughout the day include children's activities (face painting, junior combat challenge, and bounce castle) and an auto extrication demonstration. We will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, pop and chips and providing an adult beverage area for upward of 1000 people, with a live band and - best of all - an opportunity to meet the Lions Bay Volunteer fire fighters and have a great time.

A raffle and silent auction are two of the primary fundraising activities on this day and this is where we hope you can help!

To facilitate the raffle, and auction, we would appreciate any of the following donations:

  • Feature prizes for the raffle (5 items are on the raffle ticket)
  • Prizes for the silent auction
  • Cash donations - eligible for a tax receipt.
  • Food or supplies for the BBQ

In return for your generous contribution we will acknowledge your sponsorship on our flyers, notices and advertising, Signage (where applicable) as well as on our website (lionsbayfirerescue.ca).

Last year our efforts raised $12,000 that purchased a thermal imaging camera for our department. This camera allows us to quickly rescue people in zero visibility conditions.

This year our goal is to fundraise
$12,000

to replace and upgrade our self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) which is our primary protection in an atmosphere of heat smoke, and fire gases.

We hope that you are able to help us reach our goal. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Sincerely,
Andrew Oliver
