Here in Lions Bay we see a lot of MVAs on Hwy 99 and as such we do a lot of training to prepare for these events. In the following photos we would like to demonstrate the general sequence that we take to perform an extrication. These pictures do not by any means capture all the work that is involved in performing this extrication, but it does provide a reasonable account of what we do on scene.
The following scenario is a single car MVA with 2 passengers. The vehicle has rolled and landed on its wheels leaveing the roof caved in and the occupants trapped inside. A passing vehicle has witnessed this and called 911. The 911 dispatcher immediately pages out Lions Bay Fire Rescue. Our members will respond to the fire hall, man the engines, and head out on the Highway. We are usually responding within 5 minutes of the call to 911
As the engines are driving to the location we are starting to think about what we may have. There are some steps that we will follow once on scene and these follow the acronym S.S.S.A.G.E.
